European Music Festivals Celebrate World Music Day

As the summer solstice nears, Europe is gearing up for the World Music Day celebration on Friday, June 21, 2024. Originating in France in 1982, this day has evolved into a global celebration of music in all its forms, offering free access to musical experiences and providing a platform for musicians to perform in public spaces.

Festivals across Europe will offer a variety of musical experiences, reflecting the continent's rich and diverse music scene. From classical concerts in Belgium to jazz performances in Portugal, there's something for everyone to enjoy.

The STROOM Festival in Berlare, Belgium, which runs from June 20 to July 6, 2024. This festival blends music and sustainability, featuring riverside concerts and a unique participatory experience with the 'improvisational orchestra' Stegreif on June 20. Another notable event is Festim in Portugal, focusing on jazz with performances by the international Suba Trio on June 21 and 22.

In Greece, the Release Athens Festival offers a rock experience with a special performance by Pulp on June 20. Meanwhile, the Sofia Live Festival in Bulgaria will showcase pop music with Selah Sue headlining on June 21, set against the scenic backdrop of Sofia's cultural landmarks.

For those seeking an electronic vibe, the Mystic Mountain Festival in Croatia runs from June 17 to 23, offering a mix of workshops, hiking tours, and electronic music. Similarly, the RZM+ Festival in Spain celebrates sustainable electronic music in an ecosystem-based setting from June 21 to 24.

Quiet music enthusiasts can head to the Prague Quiet Music Festival in Czechia on June 22, featuring an afternoon of workshops and concerts exploring the experimental sounds of silence. In Ukraine, Make Music Day Lviv invites everyone to participate in various musical events across the city on June 21, celebrating the solstice with music in public spaces.

The Kaleidoscop Festival in Moldova, taking place on June 22 and 23, transforms the Chișinău Botanical Garden into a vibrant music and entertainment hub with a mix of electro, pop, and rock performances.
