A little-known island in Italy is the best place for a honeymoon

When it comes to honeymoons, most people immediately think of well-known romantic destinations such as the Greek islands or iconic cities from Paris to Venice. However, according to Sunsail experts, there is one lesser-known Italian village that is often overlooked and is actually one of the best European honeymoon destinations in 2024.

Procida in Italy may not be very well known, but it rivals other Italian hotspots such as Positano and Cinque Terre, which are famous for their colorful buildings. Located not far from the coast of Naples, Procida looks like it came from the pages of fairy tales, writes the Mirror website.

And, of course, there are many restaurants serving mouth-watering Italian cuisine without the inflated prices often encountered in tourist centers.

According to Sunsail experts, it boasts "stunning coastal views, hidden coves and beautiful beaches" that are ideal for couples looking for the perfect setting for their first trip as a married couple. For those who don't like to soak up the sun all day, there's plenty to explore thanks to the region's historical sites and monuments, such as the Terra Murata Fortress. It's no surprise that Procida was named the Italian Capital of Culture in 2022.

Although there are no direct flights to Procida from the UK, it is quite easy to get there. The quickest route is to fly to Naples (EasyJet, Ryanair, and British Airways all offer direct flights) and then catch a ferry to Procida.

If you're planning a honeymoon, you should book your tickets in advance. Katrina Lawson, Head of Brands and Acquisitions at Sunsail, advises: "With May-September being 'honeymoon season' and the recommendation to book your honeymoon 6-9 months in advance, now is the time to think about your dream destination. According to Katrina, booking early can also help you get the best deals, as well as the best venues and accommodations you may be looking for.

She also cautions: "Think about the time of year you will be traveling as this can affect the weather at your destination and crowd levels. Look for more affordable and less crowded options during the holiday season."

When booking a honeymoon, she also recommends checking the full terms and conditions, adding: "Set your budget and stick to it. Have a clear idea of what is included in your honeymoon package to avoid unexpected expenses."
