WHO recommends wearing masks again: there are alarming statistics
The World Health Organization (WHO) has called for the resumption of some quarantine measures, including the wearing of masks, amid rising incidence of Covid-19 and other respiratory diseases.
This was stated by WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus on the social network X. "Respiratory illnesses caused by Covid-19, influenza and other pathogens have been on the rise in many countries for several weeks, and this trend is expected to continue after the holidays," he wrote.
The WHO Director-General recommended that people use masks, ventilate rooms and keep their distance to reduce exposure to viruses, and make sure they are vaccinated against Covid-19 and influenza.
In addition, Ghebreyesus urged governments to ensure that people have access to reliable tests, treatments and vaccinations, especially for those at risk.
The WHO also asks for continued surveillance and reporting to track the evolution of the coronavirus and inform the public.
According to the WHO, in 28 days, from November 20 to December 17, 2023, the number of new cases increased by 52% compared to the previous 28-day period, when more than 850 thousand new cases were reported.
