Venice took the third step to reduce the number of guests and introduced a limit on tourist groups
The famous Italian resort of Venice will no longer be possible for large groups of people to visit. The authorities have decided to reduce the permissible number of tourists in one company to 25, which is half the number of seats in a tourist bus.
This innovation, like many others, is aimed at reducing the flow of tourists who harm the city. The restriction will apply not only to Venice, The Guardian writes, but also to the islands nearby.
Starting this June, large groups of people will have to choose another destination or split up. Travelers will also be prohibited from using loudspeakers to discipline crowds.
"This is an important measure aimed at improving the management of groups in the historic center and on the islands of Murano, Burano and Torcello. It's about promoting sustainable tourism and guaranteeing the safety and security of the city," explained Elisabetta Pesce, responsible for security in Venice.
This is the third tough measure taken by local authorities over the past year. First, cruise ships were banned from mooring through the Giudecca Canal, and later officials announced that day-trippers in Venice would be taxed.
During the next peak season, the authorities will test additional charges on tourists who do not stay in the city overnight. The ticket price will be 5 euros (4.30 pounds), but it will not be required to be purchased at all times, but on the busiest days for the city.
