Vacation in the jungles of Sri Lanka with enchanting views of the ocean
On the southern tip of Sri Lanka, where the ocean meets the jungle in the wilderness of Yala National Park, lies the remarkable Wild Coast Tented Lodge. This luxurious lodge is one of five properties owned by the Resplendent Ceylon group in Sri Lanka.
This safari-style camp boasts 28 tents, each a masterpiece in its own right. Designed and constructed by Nomadic Resorts, a Dutch architectural firm renowned for its organic, sustainable, and breathtaking designs, the lodge is featured in architecturaldigest.in.
Nestled amidst the jungle wilderness along the coast, the 28 cocoons resemble giant seed pods, offering an ideal setting for an outdoor getaway. The lodge's architecture seamlessly integrates with the Yala landscape, blending man-made structures with nature's beauty.
The small private spaces, or suites, are truly remarkable, both in their interior and exterior design. Each tent features a wooden patio, some even equipped with plunge pools, strategically positioned to offer views of the nearby watering holes. These watering holes, shaped like a leopard's paw print, are clay-lined ponds locally made and are a key attraction of Yala. Designed for the local wildlife, these ponds vary in depth and access points, with meticulous attention paid to their placement. I had the pleasure of observing an elephant and a wild boar at different times of the day at the pond closest to my room, along with daily visits from a troop of monkeys.
The interior of the suite is adorned in a safari-inspired style, characterized by copper accents, rich red camp-style leather furniture, and luxurious four-poster beds draped in cloud-like linens, all contributing to a sense of wilderness luxury. Sisal and Persian carpets introduce texture and color, while a spacious copper bathtub with leopard claw feet adds a touch of romance, enhancing the overall ambiance of luxury in the midst of nature.
Absolutely stunning to behold, this exquisite locale exemplifies intelligent, deliberate, and meticulous design and architecture, striving for and successfully achieving a harmonious equilibrium between honoring its environment and innovating within it.
