Urban sketching is becoming increasingly popular among travelers as a way to connect more deeply with the places they visit. This trend, started over a decade ago by a journalist and artist, combines drawing with storytelling about the surrounding world. Artists create sketches during their journeys, allowing them to slow down, study local landscapes in detail, and capture moments that might otherwise go unnoticed. Travelers who participate in such retreats find inspiration and unique memories in ordinary details – from the play of sunlight to the rhythm of life at local markets.

Beyond creative self-expression, urban sketching fosters cultural connections. While sketching in Vietnam or exploring markets in Marrakesh, participants often note unexpected but meaningful interactions. Many travelers share stories of how art helped them communicate with locals and better understand their traditions and heritage. Urban sketching has become not just a way to explore the world but also a means to experience it more profoundly through art. For those looking to immerse themselves in the world of art and cultural heritage, special retreats are organized, offering a unique blend of painting and exploring new destinations.

From April 6 to 12 next year, Florence will host a unique artistic retreat that combines watercolor workshops with cultural excursions. Under the guidance of an experienced artist, participants will have the opportunity to enhance their painting skills while working en plein air amidst the city's historic landmarks, such as cathedrals, palaces, and squares. The program includes accommodation in the cozy historic monastery of Borgo Pinti, breakfasts, art supplies, guided tours of museums and workshops, as well as daily practical sessions. Regardless of skill level, this retreat offers an excellent chance for creative growth and immersion in the rich cultural context of one of the world's most magnificent historical centers.

In Venice, from May 19 to 24 next year, a watercolor painting course will also take place, offering tourists a unique opportunity to capture the iconic canals and Renaissance palaces. Participants, guided by an experienced instructor, will learn techniques in composition, perspective, and color work. The program includes plein-air painting, guided tours of the Academia Gallery, a visit to the island of Burano, and dinners in classic Venetian restaurants. The package covers accommodation, meals, all necessary materials, and a rich cultural program, providing the perfect environment for creative growth in the heart of Italy.

Urban sketching offers a profound way to connect with the world, blending creativity, exploration, and cultural connection. This artistic practice allows travelers to slow down, observe their surroundings in detail, and preserve their experiences through a personal and expressive medium. As its popularity continues to grow, it fosters deeper bonds between people and places, enriching journeys with both inspiration and a lasting sense of purpose.
