UK airports scrap annoying baggage rule: what it means
A major British airport is set to abolish an annoying baggage rule to attract more British vacationers and tourists. London Heathrow Airport plans to introduce security scanners in all its terminals by this summer.
This means that passengers will be able to take more than 100 ml of liquid on flights. A DfT spokesperson said: "The UK has some of the most robust aviation security measures in the world and this cutting-edge technology will improve the safety and experience of flying for passengers," BirminghamLive reports.
Currently, the scanners are operating on some lanes in Terminals 2, 3 and 5, and will soon be installed in Terminal 4.
At the same time, Gatwick and Manchester Airports Group said they hope to complete the modernization of their scanners by 2025.
In April last year, London City Airport completed the deployment of scanners, which means that passengers traveling through it can now take two liters of liquid, which no longer need to be put in a separate bag. With nearly 4 million passengers expected to travel through London City this year, it will be the first major UK airport to fully relax the liquidity rule.
