Tourist tips for Croatia and Malta: what has changed in the recommendations of the UK Foreign Ministry
Long before the start of the main campaign, the UK updated several recommendations for tourists visiting certain countries. This is not surprising, as the Foreign Office regularly updates its travel advice pages for all countries.
This time, the advice concerned popular vacation destinations such as Croatia and Malta. Croatia is located across the Adriatic Sea from Italy in Eastern Europe, and Malta is located in the Mediterranean Sea between Sicily and Tunisia, according to MyLondon.
In particular, in Croatia, tourists may encounter difficulties when trying to enter neighboring Slovenia. This is due to the fact that checks at the borders with Croatia, Italy, and Hungary take a long time.
In this regard, tourists are advised to allow extra time to cross the land borders to and from Slovenia.
The same obstacles may be encountered by travelers to Malta. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs also reminds people to be careful when swimming on the island.
Vacationers are reminded to swim in designated areas and to be especially careful if there are no lifeguards, flags, or signs. Be sure to listen to the locals if there is a risk of jellyfish in the water.
Passport Requirements
A separate section of advice concerns visa requirements. For example, both Malta and Croatia are members of the EU, which makes entry somewhat more difficult for Brits since Britain left the EU in 2020. To enter each country, Brits need to have a "date of issue" less than 10 years from the date of their last arrival.
This is because passports issued after October 1, 2018, are now only valid for 10 years, but for passports issued before October 1, 2018, additional months may be added if you renewed your passport earlier.
It's important to check your passports before you go on vacation. As previously reported by TravelWise, if you have 3 to 6 months left before your passport expires, most countries may ban you from entering their territory.
