The terrorist threat forced the closure of the Hello Kitty amusement park in Tokyo
The popular Hello Kitty Land amusement park in Tokyo was forced to close its doors for a day after receiving a terrorist threat. The park, located in the Tama New Town district of northern Tokyo, received a threatening email.
According to CNN, the park's operators have filed an official complaint with the police. The issue of refunds for tickets purchased by visitors that day is currently being resolved.
"In order to ensure the safety of our visitors, artists, and staff, we are forced to temporarily close the park," the statement said.
In cooperation with the police, staff surveyed the entire area and made sure there were no security threats, so the park reopened the next day.
The park added: "We appreciate your understanding and cooperation. We apologize for any inconvenience caused... (and) we will continue to work to ensure that every visitor can enjoy their entertainment in peace."
According to local media reports, the police did not find any explosives on the territory of the amusement park.
