The strangest situations when people were detained at the airport: from snakes in pants to disguising as a grandfather
Airports are not just about routine flights; they are also a place where incredible stories unfold. Some passengers, knowingly or unknowingly, break the rules and often entertain employees and social media with their experiences of delays at the airport.
From disguising themselves as old men to smuggling, travelers sometimes find themselves in the center of absurd situations. The Times of India recalled some funny stories.
In 2019, a 32-year-old man tried to sneak into New York City by posing as an 81-year-old man in a wheelchair. His unconvincing disguise and youthful skin failed to fool the watchful eye of the security service, and it was later revealed that the passenger had a fake passport.
Even Arnold Schwarzenegger did not escape detention. Recently, the actor forgot to declare a watch worth more than 10,000 euros, which led to a three-hour delay. This incident was covered by all the world's media.
There were also some very sad stories. A 43-year-old woman from Ohio was arrested for trying to smuggle a baby out of the Philippines in her carry-on luggage. She managed to get through immigration, but later, security guards discovered the baby.
In 2011, a man was caught in Miami trying to smuggle seven snakes and several turtles hidden in his pants. The smuggler was arrested, and the animals were seized.
As previously reported by TravelWise, a police officer chased a woman at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta Airport and detained her severely.
