The number of tourists planning vacations in Greece has increased
The main markets supplying tourists to Greece are sending positive signals. According to preliminary data from airlines and local tourism surveys, the number of tourists in 2024 may exceed the figure for 2023, and Germany, England, and France will remain the main actors in terms of foreign tourist arrivals to Greece in 2024.
As for the German market, international tour operator DER Touristik reports an increase in demand for 2024, especially in destinations such as Heraklion, Rhodes, Kos, Corfu, and Thassos. The tour operator Schauinsland highlights Halkidiki and Corfu as promising destinations for 2024, writes the website in.gr.
In addition, FTI notes that Greece remains a highly desirable destination for families and couples, with bookings for 2024 remaining stable. For the tour operator Alltours, the winter vacation program for 2023/2024, which is planned to include Thessaloniki, is successful.
According to the ABTA (Association of British Travel Agents) report on British travel intentions for 2024, Greece is ranked 5th in the second most important market for Greek tourism in 2023. Airlines seem to confirm the data on British travelers to Greece.
Easyjet sees a 6.3% increase in flights to Greece, while British Airways recorded a 21% increase in bookings after its January advertising campaign. Jet2 offers 1.5 million seats and 320 weekly flights to Greece from 11 UK airports, serving 14 Greek airports. Jet2holidays customers can choose from 20 Greek destinations.
In France, the third most important market for Greek tourism, a study of French travel preferences in 2024 shows that Greece ranks third. An analysis of data from the well-known French professional travel website L'Echo Touristique indicates a 3% increase in overall market activity in January 2024 compared to January 2023, as evidenced by sales of travel packages.
While Greece is poised to succeed on the global tourism scene in 2024, it is important to note that simply meeting the 2023 numbers is not the primary goal for tourism policy or business. The focus is on the quality of tourist arrivals and their economic impact, prioritizing sustainable growth and a significant contribution to the local economy.
