The most cheerful country in Europe: which one and why did it surprise the British?
When you go on vacation, you are most likely looking for new experiences, delicious food, and good weather. In short, you want to have fun.
Not sure where to go? The rating shows the most fun countries in the world. It was published by metro.co.
In the Far & Wide list, France is recognized as the most fun European country and the second most fun country in the world. However, the United Kingdom is ranked second in Europe and third in the world, and the United States claims the coveted prize of the most fun country on Earth.
"Why does France score higher than the UK? The French have always had a greater lust for life. Think about it in terms of food: decadent desserts, buttery sauces, and home to some of the best chefs in the world who make food a real pleasure. Now extend that to the country's sights – and voila! You're guaranteed fun at every turn," Far & Wide explained.
And we recognize that France has a lot to offer. Of course, this is the city of love, Paris. From the Eiffel Tower and the beautiful streets of Montmartre to the Moulin Rouge cabaret and walks along the Seine, there is so much to do in the capital. And let's not forget Disneyland, the happiest place on Earth.
If you're looking for a beach vacation, head south to St. Tropez or Nice. We're pretty sure we could have some fun on a yacht on the French Riviera.
There's also Montpellier, a sun-drenched city with stately boulevards, family-run bakeries, and white sandy beaches on its doorstep. Or adrenaline junkies can head to the French Alps for some of the best skiing in the world.
But despite the country's many fun offerings, the Brits might likely be a little upset to be ranked second to France.
Despite the fact that Far & Wide gave a well-deserved second place to the UK for its huge selection of activities and attractions. However, there is a long-standing rivalry between the two countries that dates back to the Norman Conquest and continues all the way to the Olympic bid and continues during every football match.
The Atlantic even published a piece in 2021 titled "Why Britain and France Hate Each Other".
Recent figures show that the number of tourists who visited the United Kingdom in 2023 was estimated to be around 37.5 million, but France is miles ahead. As the number one country for tourists, according to the French Minister of Tourism Olivia Gregoire, the country received between 78 and 82 million foreign visitors last year.
