The hopes of the "time travellers" dash as the plan to celebrate the New Year twice fails due to a delayed flight
The chance to "travel in time" and celebrate the New Year twice in one day was dashed due to a flight delay from Guam to Honolulu. And novice thrill seekers were left devastated.
For those who want to hear "Happy New Year" more than once in a calendar year, there is a way to do it. It means a flight to Guam and then another flight to Honolulu, Hawaii, just a few hours later, the publication dailystar.co reports.
Some were up for the challenge and took off for the first stop on their time travel, which would mean that at the start of the new year in Micronesia, the flight would take them back to 2023, where Honolulu is 20 hours behind Guam.
But thrill-seekers were completely disappointed when their flight for last year was delayed and United Airlines' social media campaign faced an embarrassing problem.
Boarding flight UA200 was supposed to be a time for double celebrations, with visits to the holidays in Guam and Honolulu. But that didn't happen as dozens of people were stranded in 2024.
One member of the public wrote, "Great idea, too bad it was delayed! I was supposed to be on this flight. There will be no more double New Year's Eve."
Another one, who was travelling in 2023, wrote about an incredible experience when they used the flight plan as a way to celebrate their birthday twice. They wrote, "One day it was my birthday... I flew from Guam to Hawaii and celebrated twice!"
