The best train journeys in the world have been named, and the list includes two trips in the United Kingdom
In recent years, train travel has become popular among vacationers, and many are adding more and more routes to their travel bucket lists. Among these travelers are many Brits.
Brits looking for their next train trip will be pleased to know that Conde Nast Traveler has named two train journeys in the UK as the best in the world for 2023. As part of the Reader's Choice Awards, a community of well-traveled readers voted for their favorite train trips. This was reported by thescottishsun.co.uk.
The top 20 include train travel to Australia, Japan, Canada, and Spain. The Royal Scotsman in Scotland made the list due to its indulgent and intimate atmosphere.
Conde Nast wrote: "With only 40 guests on board, the train skirts the heart of the Scottish Highlands, passing attractions such as the Kyle of Lochalsh and the Cairngorms National Park."
The luxury train has special features such as a separate spa car, an observation car, and a variety of gourmet dining options.
Meanwhile, the British Pullman also entered the top twenty. This time, it was due to its restored coaches, which date back to the 1920s and 1930s, and Art Deco interiors.
The British Pullman departs from London and takes passengers past picturesque cities such as Cambridge and York before heading into the countryside. In addition to transporting passengers across the country, the British Pullman also welcomes royalty and government officials on board. But traveling on the British Pullman is not cheap, with tickets costing hundreds of pounds.
Luckily, other train rides in the UK are much more affordable, with the country's "most scenic" costing as little as £3.
One train ride that delights railroad enthusiasts is the route from St. Erth to St. Ives in Cornwall. The journey takes just 10 minutes and transports passengers along the Cornish coast. The final destination of the train is Carbis Bay.
Great Scenic Railways called it "one of the most scenic in the UK." They wrote: "Enjoy the spectacular views as the line sweeps along the coast, the golden sands of Hale Towans and Carbis Bay before arriving at St Ives. If you can, take a seat on the right-hand side when you board at St. Ives. The sea views are fantastic!"
Another feature of the trip is that St. Ives station is located right next to Porthminster Beach, meaning you can get to the sand and sea almost immediately.
Another rail route that people in the UK like is the East Coast Main Line between Durham and Edinburgh. There are stunning views of the coast and cityscapes among the sights that can be seen from the window. Newcastle, Berwick, Lindisfarne, and Durham Cathedral are all highlights of this route.
Meanwhile, on this British island, you can ride the London Underground overlooking the sea. And these are some of the most beautiful train journeys in the UK.
