The airline that became the best in terms of affordable passenger kilometers in 2023 has been named

The Dallas-based American low-cost airline Southwest Airlines has been recognized as the world's largest airline in terms of available seat-kilometers (ASK). This means that over the past year, the American carrier has been popular in the US domestic market.

Southwest Airlines has outperformed its closest competitor, American Airlines, by almost 10%, Simple Flying writes. The carrier-winner of the rating ended the year with more than 619 billion ASK.

This is a very good result for the low-cost carrier, as the company has not been doing as well as it would like lately.

This indicates that passengers within the US are looking for more budget-friendly flight options. Reportedly, the summer season was particularly busy for the low-cost airline.

During the holiday season, the company operated more than 4,300 daily flights and tried to avoid cancelations.

Southwest Airlines carried more than 5 million passengers by Thanksgiving. On the day of the holiday itself, the low-cost airline operated flights with almost no delays. After the holiday, by the way, the company set a personal record when it carried 615,000 passengers in one day.

Despite the challenges this year, the airline has proven to be a worthy and reliable carrier, so it has retained its credibility this year.
