In Thailand, they have found a way to increase revenue from the Purple and Red Lines railway routes
People in Thailand have started to use railways more often. This is attributed to the cost of tickets for Purple and Red Lines trains, which has allowed companies to generate more profit.
At the same time, Transport Minister Suriya Huangruangkit predicts further profit growth within six months. In his address to the parliament, he mentioned that the implementation of feeder buses would contribute to sustainable profit growth, as reported by thaipbsworld.
In particular, he responded to statements by opposition MPs who criticized the establishment of a maximum fare of 20 baht for all electric trains in and around Bangkok.
He emphasized that fare collection revenues on the Purple and Red Lines have been steadily increasing since the maximum fare came into effect on November 30.
It is noted that previously both lines had a loss of 6.9 million baht per day, but financial performance improved after the introduction of the 20-baht fare.
According to the minister, the authorities intend to facilitate passenger travel by introducing a system of air-conditioned buses that will transport passengers to railway stations where there are no bus routes.
At the same time, negotiations are underway with private carriers to reduce fares to a maximum of 20 baht. In addition, discussions are ongoing about compensating them for the losses incurred.
Furthermore, the Cabinet of Ministers is awaiting the development of a new bill on a unified ticket system for all types of electric trains by the Ministry of Transport.
