Security remains one of the key concerns when planning a vacation during the tourist season. However, there are still popular destinations in the world that people can visit with a certain level of confidence in safety.

Every year, Berkshire Hathaway Travel Protection publishes a list of the safest places to travel. In 2024, the countries that topped the list provide a secure environment for travelers, making them an ideal choice, as reported by the Brattleboro Reformer.

Canada, with its friendly locals and majestic landscapes, tops the list as one of the safest countries to visit in 2024. Whether travelers are navigating the bustling streets of Toronto, hiking the Rocky Mountains, or exploring the vastness of Vancouver, Canada offers abundant opportunities for sightseeing in a safe and welcoming environment. The rate of violent crime is relatively low, and incidents of gun-related offenses are also minimal.

Switzerland is not referred to as the paradise in the Alps for nothing, as its security record is as solid as its majestic mountains. The country boasts breathtaking landscapes, a reliable healthcare system, and a low crime rate. With a level 1 safety rating, indicating standard precautions, Switzerland is a safe destination. Visitors can enjoy skiing in the Swiss Alps, exploring charming villages, or simply basking in the tranquility that characterizes this European gem.

Norway is among the top safest countries in 2024, thanks to its stunning fjords and strong commitment to social welfare. Travelers can revel in the natural beauty of this Scandinavian country, knowing that safety is a top priority, with a crime rate of 39 per 1000 inhabitants in Oslo in 2021.

Ireland, often referred to as the Emerald Isle for its majestic landscapes, stands out as a destination. Whether exploring the bustling streets of Dublin, savoring whiskey in Cork, or wandering the cliffs of Moher, travelers will encounter safety and a warm Irish welcome at every turn.

The Netherlands, known as the land of windmills and tulips, offers picturesque canals, historic architecture, and a strong commitment to safety. Visitors can cycle through the charming streets of Amsterdam, visit world-class museums, and enjoy the open-minded Dutch culture. In the Netherlands, it's worth visiting Keukenhof, often dubbed the "Garden of Europe."

The United Kingdom, with its rich history and attractions, draws millions of travelers. Safety prevails both in the bustling streets of London and in the serene Scottish Highlands. Regardless of a country's safety reputation, it's always advisable to register with the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP), a free service allowing you to register your trip with the nearest embassy or consulate.
