Ryanair Leads the Way in Climate Protection with Prestigious 'A-' CDP Rating
In a significant environmental milestone, Ryanair has been distinguished with an 'A-' rating for its climate protection efforts by the CDP, an esteemed international non-profit organization. This accolade underscores the airline's leadership in environmental stewardship within the aviation sector.
On February 6th, Ryanair, recognized as Europe's premier airline, shared news of this achievement, highlighting its proactive strides in decarbonization throughout 2023. The airline has made notable progress by incorporating new B737-8200 "Gamechanger" aircraft into its fleet, which offer a 16% reduction in CO2 emissions alongside a 4% increase in seating capacity. This initiative is part of Ryanair's broader commitment to environmental sustainability, further demonstrated by its efforts to boost the supply of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) across Europe.
In a groundbreaking move, Ryanair has also expanded its fleet with an order of 300 Boeing MAX-10 aircraft. These planes are not only designed to accommodate 21% more passengers but also promise a remarkable 20% decrease in CO2 emissions. This strategic expansion aligns with Ryanair's revised environmental objectives, aiming for a carbon footprint of just 50 grams of CO2 per passenger kilometer by 2031.
Beyond fleet advancements, Ryanair is investing in the future of eco-friendly aviation through the Ryanair Sustainable Aviation Research Centre at Trinity College Dublin. This initiative funds vital research into decarbonizing the aviation industry, signaling Ryanair's dedication to pioneering sustainable travel solutions.
Thomas Fowler, Ryanair's Director of Sustainability, expressed his enthusiasm about the CDP rating, stating, "We are delighted to be awarded an 'A-' rating by CDP. This rating reflects Ryanair’s industry-leading CO2 emission intensity and our ambitious emission reduction strategy."
Ryanair's recognition by the CDP not only showcases its environmental leadership but also sets a benchmark for the aviation industry. As the airline continues to push the boundaries of eco-friendly travel, its efforts contribute significantly to the global fight against climate change, offering passengers a more sustainable way to fly.
