Radisson Hotel Group's Plan to Reduce Carbon Footprint
Radisson Hotel Group (RHG) continues to implement its strategy for reducing its carbon footprint as part of its 2023 Responsible Business Program. A key component of this strategy involves reducing greenhouse gas emissions and transitioning to more environmentally friendly energy sources.
According to the results for 2023, RHG has made significant progress in reducing its carbon footprint. The total carbon emissions, including Scope 1 and Scope 2, were 526,452 tons of CO2e, which represents a 35% reduction compared to 2019. This indicates the company's commitment to reducing its carbon footprint and transitioning towards more sustainable operations.
Radisson Hotel Group has also established long-term targets for emission reductions. By 2030, the company plans to reduce absolute Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions by 46%, and Scope 3 emissions by 27.5% compared to the 2019 baseline. RHG is targeting long-term goals, aiming to reduce Scope 1, 2, and 3 emissions by 90% by 2050, in line with the Science Based Targets initiative and the company's commitment to achieve net-zero emissions by 2050.
To meet these goals, RHG emphasizes energy efficiency, using a strategy based on transitioning to renewable energy sources. The company is also engaged in retrofitting existing properties to enhance energy efficiency and reduce the carbon footprint.
Another RHG initiative, launched in 2019, focuses on carbon offsetting, leading to the offsetting of 87,000 tons of CO2e through projects aimed at climate restoration and promoting sustainable development.
The Hotel Sustainability Basics (HSB) program, implemented in RHG's hotels, is also part of the group's carbon footprint reduction strategy. Currently, 50% of the hotels are undergoing HSB implementation, and 179 hotels have already been HSB-verified.
Radisson Hotel Group's carbon footprint reduction strategy reflects the company's commitment to sustainable development and its support for environmental initiatives in the hospitality industry.
