Public transport in Budapest will rise sharply
The Ministry of Construction and Transport (ÉKM) is planning to withdraw MÁV and Volán services from Budapest. If this does happen, it will make public transportation in the city much more expensive and inferior.
ÉKM said it would not renew the hybrid transportation contract with the capital after Budapest owes 2 billion forints. Without the contract, it will not be possible to travel on the MÁV, Volán and HÉV lines with BKK tickets and passes, and the management and coordination of the lines will be terminated, reports Dailynewshungary.com.
In addition to a common ticket and pass system, the contract provided for a unified transport network, harmonized timetables, transfer points, common stops and terminals, and unified traffic management for the hundreds of thousands of people who commuted daily between Budapest and surrounding municipalities.
In addition, many people in the capital also used MÁV or HÉV trains. For example, the rail line between Ferihegy (where Budapest Airport is located) and Nyígyháza train station offered a good alternative to buses and subways for people living in remote areas.
It is noted that the ÉKM solution is the biggest problem for those who used to use HÉV trains on a daily basis. This applies to the entire Csepel district or the northern part of Obuda, including the residential district of Bekasmedyer.
