Post-pandemic recovery: China expects an 80% increase in international flights in 2024
By the end of 2024, the number of international flights in China will reach 6,000 per week, or about 80% of the level before the COVID-19 pandemic. At the same time, the number of passengers per week is currently 4,600.
The Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) announced this on January 4, according to The Standard. It is noted that at the beginning of 2023, less than 500 international flights were operated weekly to and from the country.
The process of post-quarantine resumption of international travel is currently lagging behind the positive growth of domestic flights. The reason for this is a shortage of flights, high ticket prices, and administrative obstacles to obtaining visas.
The CAAC stated that 690 million passenger trips will be made this year, both domestically and abroad, which is 11% more than last year. In 2023, 620 million trips were made, an increase of 146.1%. Additionally, there are plans to increase the number of direct flights between China and the United States next year.
