Polar explorers showed the sunset in Antarctica: a mesmerizing sight
Ukrainian polar explorers from the Antarctic research station Akademik Vernadsky captured an incredible sunset around Galindez Island.
The photo of this rare spectacle was published by the National Antarctic Science Center on its Facebook page. "You can see such beauty not often because most of the time in this area the sun is hidden behind the clouds. But yesterday it was a clear day, so in the evening the sky became colorful," the polar explorers noted.
On the one hand, the sky had a rich orange-blue color with a purple layer at a certain moment, and on the other hand, it was delicate pink and lilac, the polar explorers said.
According to them, such colors are formed due to the low position of the sun. Then the light has to travel a longer way to the surface than when the sun is high above the horizon, and therefore the colors are scattered differently.
In addition, the color of the sky depends on the filling of the air with various particles and even the underlying surface: snow, ice, or water, which also reflect the rays.
As TravelWise reported earlier, Ukrainian polar explorers showed a natural wonder – pink landscapes at the edge of the world, in Antarctica. In the wake of the popularity of the movie Barbie with Ryan Gosling and Margot Robbie, Ukrainians impressed netizens with shots of rich pink color.
