Paphos: a paradise city in Cyprus with stunning beaches and great food
Paphos is a hot vacation spot in Cyprus for many travelers, and it's understandable, because the sun, sea and sand are waiting for you there.
Chronicle Live tells you what to do in this city.
Explore the archaeology
Paphos is home to the Tomb of the Kings, a UNESCO World Heritage Site filled with a lot of history. Dating back to 4 BC, the underground tombs are carved out of solid rock and are believed to have been home to late Pafos aristocrats and dignitaries. From the frescoed walls to the Doric columns, there is a lot to see at the Tomb of the Kings.
It is also home to the Paphos Archaeological Park, which features sites and monuments dating back to prehistoric times and the Middle Ages. Among the most significant remains discovered at the site are four large and elaborate Roman villas in the House of Dionysus, the House of Aion, the House of Theseus, and the House of Orpheus.
Enjoy the sea and sand
As Paphos is the site of the longest coastline in Cyprus, there is an abundance of beaches to make the most of. From the deep lagoons of Municipal Beach to the rocky coves of St. George, the enchanting dunes of Vardas to the shimmering sands of Sodapou, Paphos has something for everyone.
Enjoy fantastic food
You may have recently heard Dr. Michael Mosley extolling the health benefits of the Mediterranean diet, but the food in Cyprus is living proof that healthy food doesn't have to be bland. Why not grab some authentic halloumi, some sublime souvlakia, some unusual koupepia, or some juicy lokmardes?
Explore the Old City
Whether you're looking for a romantic meal with your significant other or a day in the sun, Paphos Old Town has everything you could want from a Mediterranean trip. Hailed as one of the most charming places to explore, the old town is home to several traditional Cypriot restaurants, huge historical buildings, traditional markets, and cute shops.
See the sunset at the Aphrodite's Rock
After a fun-filled day of visiting all that Paphos has to offer, the last thing you'll want to do is head up to the Rock of Aphrodite to watch the stunning sunset. Local myth claims that anyone who swims around the rock will be blessed with eternal beauty, but others may prefer to admire the serene skies as they sail into Cyprus.
