Only six days: when you can visit US national parks for free in 2024
The National Park Service is offering free admission to US national parks for six days in 2024.
There are more than 400 national parks in the United States. Most of them offer free entry all the time. However, 109 parks do not, including some of the most popular, such as the Grand Canyon, Zion, Rocky Mountains, Acadia, Yosemite, Yellowstone, Joshua Tree, and Glacier National Parks, CNBC writes.
Their entrance fees typically range from $20 to $35 per vehicle. (Some may charge per person rather than per vehicle, and there may be different fees for motorcycles.)
All parks that normally charge entrance fees will waive them on the following days in 2024:
- Jan. 15: Martin Luther King Jr.'s birthday
- April 20: First day of National Parks Week.
- June 19: June.
- August 4: Anniversary of the Great American Outdoors Act.
- September 28: National Public Lands Day.
- November 11: Veterans Day
Even if you plan to visit a park on one of the 2024 free admission days, it may make financial sense to purchase an annual pass before you go, depending on your itinerary, said Mary Cropper, travel advisor and senior specialist at Audley Travel.
An $80 annual pass gives you unlimited access to national parks and other federal recreation areas. (Some groups can get discounted or even free annual passes.)
