Norwegian cruise quarantined: passengers are not allowed to leave the ship
The Norwegian cruise ship Norwegian Dawn has been quarantined during a stopover in Mauritius near Port Louis. The reason was a possible cholera outbreak among passengers.
"During Norwegian Dawn's flight to South Africa on February 13, 2024, a small number of guests experienced mild symptoms of a stomach-related illness. Due to the fact that local authorities require additional testing before allowing entry, the government of Mauritius has postponed the landing for two days, until February 27, 2024," USA Today quotes a Norwegian representative as saying.
In total, there are 2184 passengers and 1026 crew members on board. All of them are forbidden to leave the ship. About 2000 passengers were supposed to end their cruise in Port Louis.
It is reported that the stomach illness is likely caused by cholera, as South Africa is experiencing one of the most serious outbreaks. Passenger test results will be available on Tuesday, February 27.
