Norwegian cruise closed for quarantine off the coast of Mauritius: what the passengers fell ill with
A Norwegian Cruise Line liner was quarantined off the coast of Mauritius due to an outbreak of stomach illness among passengers. According to the company, during a 12-day cruise from Cape Town to Port Louis, which began on February 13, a "small number of guests" experienced mild symptoms of stomach upset.
According to USA Today, upon the ship's arrival in Port Louis, local authorities postponed disembarkation and embarkation until February 27, 2024 due to the need for additional passenger screening.
While in Mauritius, journalists learned that a passenger who fell ill with cholera was suspected of having a stomach illness.
Norwegian Cruise Line has assured that it is taking all necessary safety measures for passengers and crew. Sanitary procedures on board the ship have been strengthened, and guests who were unable to disembark were provided with free hotel accommodation.
This incident has severely spoiled the plans of travelers who were expecting an unforgettable cruise. However, it should be noted that outbreaks of stomach illnesses on cruise ships are not uncommon. This is due to the close interaction of people in a confined space.
