New Zealand airline to strengthen control over compliance with the rules of hand luggage transportation
Air New Zealand has announced that it will tighten control over compliance with hand luggage rules. The introduction is aimed at making it easier for passengers to board and disembark, as well as ensuring a fair distribution of baggage space.
Air NZ, like all airlines, is required to carefully calculate the weight and fuel requirements for each flight. This means that there are clearly defined rules regarding the size and weight of hand luggage, which some passengers ignore, causing problems for others, writes News Hub.
Air NZ's general manager of airports, Kate Boyer, confirmed that the airline is "looking at" the rules for hand luggage to stop people from taking too much with them.
According to Boyer, airport teams have been noticing more and more cases of overweight and over-sized hand luggage lately. This leads to limited space on board, delays in boarding and disembarking, and a lack of space in the luggage compartments for other passengers.
In this regard, Air NZ has tightened control over hand luggage at the airport. Passengers whose baggage exceeds the established limits will be asked to check it in.
According to the airline's rules, economy class passengers can take one bag weighing up to 7 kg and measuring no more than 118 cm, as well as a small item such as a handbag or laptop.
Premium economy and business class passengers, as well as members of loyalty programs with gold or higher status, are entitled to two bags weighing up to 14 kg and one small item.
As TravelWise previously reported, not all electronic devices can be transported in checked baggage.
