New record: The number of tourists in Turkey amounted to 46.7 million in 2023
According to statistics, the number of international tourists in Turkey reached a record high of 46.7 million in November. This is 10.82% more than last year and exceeds the number of tourists who visited the country before the pandemic.
The Chiang Rai Times notes that Turkey's GDP accounts for 10% of tourism, and therefore the country relies heavily on it as a source of income. At the same time, given the near-record level of tourism recorded in the country last year, the government expects another 60 million people to arrive by the end of this year.
It is noted that the income from tourists seeking to relax in Turkey reached $ 42 billion from January to September 2023. This figure is 20% higher than last year.
One of the reasons for the popularity of Turkish resorts is the travel restrictions imposed by Western countries in response to Russia's invasion of Ukraine. It is noted that in November, with almost 6.1 million travellers, Russians ranked first among all international tourists in terms of the number of arrivals to the country. Thus, the number of Russians is 9.72%, ahead of tourists from Germany and the UK.
In addition, after Moscow invaded Ukraine on February 24, revenue from Russian tourists who rushed to the country increased by 53.4% to a record $46.3 billion.
