New railway connection: FirstGroup is preparing a route from London to Glasgow in 2025
Transportation company FirstGroup has announced ambitious plans to expand its network of connections under the Lumo brand. From summer 2025, passengers are likely to be able to travel not only between London and Edinburgh, but also to and from Glasgow.
This introduction will undoubtedly benefit the British rail market, as currently only Avanti West Coast operates direct London-Glasgow routes. According to the Independent, a significant number of Lumo passengers already travel to and from Glasgow with transfers, which is not very convenient.
The expansion of Lumo's network will also provide a direct connection between Newcastle and Glasgow, which will also make life easier for travelers seeking quick and convenient transportation options.
Before the new routes can be introduced, FirstGroup must negotiate with Transport Scotland, Network Rail, and submit an application to the Office of Rail and Road.
FirstGroup CEO Graeme Sutherland spoke about the prospect of expanding Lumo: "We are delighted to be considering options to grow our popular Lumo train service by extending it from Edinburgh to Glasgow from next year."
