Only those climbers will be able to climb Mount Everest who carry a tracking device with them during the climb to reduce the time for search and rescue missions if necessary.
Climbers will be able to rent GPS tracking chips for $10-$15. The chip will need to be sewn into the jacket. At the end of the route, the chip should be returned, CNN reports.
The tracking chips use the Global Positioning System (GPS) to exchange information with satellites.
Last year, Nepal issued a record 478 climbing permits. It has been confirmed that 12 climbers died on the mountain, and five more are officially missing.
As TravelWise reported, tourists are advised to visit the beautiful alpine town that once inspired Tolkien.
