Malaysia is preparing to welcome a record-breaking 27.3 million tourists in 2024
Malaysia's Director General of Tourism, Datuk Ammar Abd Gapar, has announced ambitious intentions to welcome 27.3 million foreign tourists in 2024. He stated that the government has introduced a number of strategic initiatives to attract more foreign travelers.
It is noted that last year, Malaysia managed to receive more than 20 million foreign tourists, which exceeded the original target by 19.1 million. This was reported by Travel And Tour World.
The country believes that such a wave of tourists will be attracted through the introduction of grant incentives for charter flights, a visa liberalization program, and active promotion of tourism abroad. In particular, increasing the frequency of flights to Malaysia should encourage not only an increase in inbound charter flights but also the diversification of entry points beyond Kuala Lumpur, including destinations such as Kota Kinabalu, Penang, and Tawau.
Additionally, to attract the attention of foreigners, visa-free entry for Chinese and Indian citizens was introduced on December 1 last year, leading to a significant increase in demand among tourists from these countries. According to Trip.com, 53.9% more tourists arrived in Malaysia for the Chinese New Year in 2024 compared to the previous year.
