Lavender paradise: which town in Britain was named the most beautiful and when to go there
Travel blog TravelAway.com recently compiled a list of the "most beautiful towns in the UK". The first place went to Snowshill, which is located south of Broadway, Gloucestershire.
According to ExploreTheCotswolds.com, the town dates back to the Bronze Age, starting with a population of only 20 households. Since then, Snowhill has grown a little, but not much, and according to the latest census, there are 164 registered permanent residents, the Express writes.
Known for its Cotswold stone cottages and surrounding greenery. One of the main tourist attractions is Snowshill Manor, once owned by Charles Wade.
The eccentric owner, who was educated in art and architecture, bought the house after World War I to preserve his collection of more than 22,000 world artifacts. He died in 1956.
A visit to the estate costs £14 for adults and £7 for children.
Another must-see is the lavender fields.
The best time to visit is from June to August. On a farm of more than 70 acres, 35 different varieties of lavender are grown.
Guests can even visit the distillery where lavender oil is extracted for cosmetics.
