ITA Airways Embarks on a Greener Journey with Fleet Expansion
In a remarkable move toward sustainability, ITA Airways has recently bolstered its fleet with the addition of four new-generation Airbus aircraft, a significant stride towards making its operations greener. This addition, executed within a span of a single week, marks over 50% of the airline's fleet now comprising next-generation aircraft, signifying ITA Airways' strong commitment to environmental stewardship and modernization in the aviation sector.
The swift integration of these state-of-the-art aircraft into ITA Airways' operations underscores the airline's agile and forward-thinking approach. These aircraft were operational within a day of their inclusion in ITA Airways' Air Operator Certificate (AOC), a testament to the efficient coordination between ITA personnel and various regulatory authorities. The updated fleet now includes an owned A330-900 and three leased models: an A321neo, an A320neo, and an A220-100, each representing advancements in aviation technology and environmental friendliness.
Francesco Presicce, the Accountable Manager & Chief Technology Officer of ITA Airways, expressed enthusiasm about the airline's growth trajectory and its focus on investing in a modern, efficient fleet. The acquisition of these aircraft not only enhances ITA Airways' operational capacity but also significantly reduces the fleet's average age, demonstrating the airline's resolve to lead in the adoption of sustainable aviation technologies.
ITA Airways' next-generation fleet is now being equipped with the latest technology and onboard Wi-Fi, improving service quality while markedly reducing environmental impacts. By the end of its 2023-2027 Strategic Plan, the airline aims for 90% of its fleet to be environmentally friendly, consuming 25% less fuel and emitting fewer CO₂ emissions. This ambitious goal positions ITA Airways to become Europe's leading eco-friendly carrier, a testament to its dedication to sustainability and innovation in the skies.
