In the city of Palma, they intend to put an end to irresponsible tourism
Some tourists can lose touch with reality when they escape from their everyday lives to a magical resort somewhere far from their hometown or country. In particular, such cases happen to tourists who come to the city of Palma de Mallorca to enjoy a vacation on the local beach of Platja de Palma.
The mayor of Palma, Jaime Martínez, said that he would do whatever is necessary to improve the situation and put an end to the danger of "rampant" irresponsible tourism in the resort. Thus, travelers who violate the established law will be obliged to pay a fine of up to 3,000 euros, Majorca Daily Bulletin reported.
Additionally, Jaime Martínez noted that the mayor's office is introducing a zero-tolerance policy and will act harshly with those tourists who commit vandalism, start fights in the streets, and are found to be excessively drunk. However, he added that due to the need to go through a number of procedures, this decision may be delayed.
However, to improve the situation, the mayor's office has already authorized an increase in the number of local police. Martínez added: "This is a matter of political will. No one deserves to put up with this behavior every year."
"What we demand from our citizens, we demand from our guests," said Mayor of Palma Jaime Martínez.
