In the capital of Saudi Arabia, the first-ever wine shop in history is set to open
Saudi Arabia will introduce new rules regarding alcohol. These rules were disclosed on the eve of the announcement of the opening of the first-ever wine store in the country's capital, Riyadh.
The regulations concerning alcohol quotas for non-Muslim diplomatic missions are being implemented to 'counteract the illegal trade in alcoholic beverages,' as stated by the government's Center for International Communications (CIC), as reported by CNN.
As known, Saudi Arabia is preparing to open its first liquor store in the capital, Riyadh, exclusively catering to non-Muslim diplomats.
The CIC stated that 'the new process will focus on the allocation of specific quantities of alcoholic beverages upon entry into the Kingdom to end the previous unregulated process that led to the uncontrolled exchange of such goods in the Kingdom.'
The CIC did not specify whether the store would be opened but mentioned that the new 'regulatory framework was introduced to counter the illegal trade in alcoholic beverages and products received by diplomatic missions.'
The sale and consumption of alcohol are strictly prohibited in Saudi Arabia and are punishable by whipping, deportation, fines, and imprisonment.
