In China, record passenger traffic is expected at this year's Spring Festival
A record 9 billion passenger trips are expected in China during this year's Spring Festival. The Chinese Ministry of Transport reported that the anticipated surge is linked to the largest family reunion holiday in China, which will last from January 26 to March 5, 2024.
Furthermore, China's Deputy Minister of Transport, Li Yang, emphasized that the number of passenger trips by rail, road, water, and civil aviation during this period will reach 1.8 billion, as reported by CGTN.
The state railway company, China State Railway Group Co., Ltd., also acknowledged the expectation of a large number of passengers. During the holiday season, the Chinese railroad is gearing up to transport an average of 12 million passengers per day, totaling 480 million passengers.
Li Yang noted that such a surge will exert pressure on the logistics and safety of transportation workers. Therefore, the government has established a special working group to oversee transportation during the tourist boom. The group will be responsible for monitoring and coordinating the entire transportation sector and ensuring sufficient capacity to meet the demand.
