Hong Kong's Air Cargo Terminals Lead Asia in Sustainability with IEnvA Certification
In a pioneering move for the Asian cargo handling sector, Cathay Cargo Terminal and Hong Kong Air Cargo Terminals Limited (Hactl) have both been awarded the prestigious IATA Environmental Assessment (IEnvA) certification. This achievement marks them as the first cargo handlers in Asia to meet the stringent sustainability standards set by the International Air Transport Association (IATA).
The IEnvA program is an innovative certification scheme designed by IATA to evaluate and enhance the environmental and sustainability efforts of aviation stakeholders, including airlines, airports, cargo handlers, and more. It focuses on aligning organizations with global standards and industry best practices, aiming to reduce environmental footprints while upholding operational excellence.
Cathay Cargo Terminal's Chief Operating Officer, Mark Watts, expressed pride in reaching this significant milestone, emphasizing the rigorous approach the IEnvA program brings to environmental management systems. He highlighted the commitment both companies have made towards supporting the sustainable operations vision of Hong Kong International Airport.
Quintin Holder, IATA's Senior Manager for Sustainability Standards and Audits, elaborated on the IEnvA's role in marrying environmental goals with operational efficiency. He stressed that the program is designed to assist businesses in optimizing their operations to minimize environmental impacts without compromising on efficiency. Holder emphasized the broader objective of making a tangible difference for the planet and future generations, beyond mere compliance.
This groundbreaking achievement by Cathay Cargo Terminal and Hactl is a significant step forward in promoting sustainability within the aviation industry, particularly in the cargo handling sector. It signifies a shift towards more environmentally responsible practices in Asia and sets an example for other industry players to follow.
