Frontier Airlines passengers evacuated due to a strong stench: what is known
Passengers on a Frontier Airlines Airbus A321neo were forced to evacuate due to an unbearable odor on board. The cause of this phenomenon has not yet been established.
The flight, which took off from Charlotte Douglas International Airport (CLT), was scheduled to land at Orlando International Airport (MCO). There were about 230 passengers on board, Simple Flying reports.
According to eyewitnesses, the odor appeared after the captain warned of mechanical problems. The plane was taken out of service for two days to investigate.
Passenger Brandon Reed said that the flight was delayed for an hour, and then the captain announced mechanical problems. A few minutes later, the pilot announced an evacuation.
Passengers urgently left the cabin through the jet bridge and evacuation ladders.
"According to initial reports, there was no visible smoke or fire. All passengers have left the aircraft and have been accommodated on alternate flights. We sincerely apologize and sympathize with those affected and are investigating the cause of the incident," the spokesperson said.
One tourist was injured when he rolled down the inflatable slide and was taken to the hospital. Videos posted online show how the evacuation took place.
As previously reported by TravelWise, Frontier Airlines is expanding its routes, adding 17 new destinations domestically and abroad.
