Flights to the USA and Argentina: Uruguay's air network is expanding with new flights
Uruguay's airline network is rapidly expanding with more flights to and from the country's capital, Montevideo. The recent launch of Sky Airline flights has expanded access to Montevideo, connecting it to 16 cities in the Americas and Europe.
This Chilean low-cost airline has launched operations in Uruguay, marking its entry into a ninth market, with direct flights to four South American destinations: Lima, Santiago, Florianopolis, and El Salvador," travelandtourworld.com reports.
Sky Airline plans to carry 100,000 passengers during the first year on the Montevideo-Santiago route. In addition, from January 2, Montevideo welcomes a new route to Bariloche, Argentina, operated by Aerolíneas Argentinas.
In addition to these developments, since October 2023, Montevideo has regained a vital connection for tourism and trade: a direct flight to Miami from American Airlines. And in November, Azul Airlines launched its first flight from Montevideo to Curitiba, establishing a direct connection to this dynamic South Brazilian city.
Montevideo currently boasts direct flights to 16 cities, including Madrid, Panama City, Asunción, Santiago, Lima, São Paulo, Buenos Aires, Bogota, Porto Alegre, Recife, Rio de Janeiro, Curitiba, Miami, Bariloche, Salvador, and Florianopolis.
Uruguay's two main airports, Carrasco International Airport and Laguna del Sauce International Airport (serving Punta del Este), increased the number of flights by 24 routes in 2023 compared to the previous year.
The Uruguayan Ministry of Tourism reports that from December 2022 to December 2023, the weekly frequency of flights at Carrasco International Airport increased from 132 to 149. Meanwhile, Laguna del Sauce International Airport increased the number of flights from 23 to 30 during the same period.
