Finnish airline ordered to pay compensation to its employee
The court has ordered the Finnish airline Finnair to pay compensation to a flight attendant who was fired for violating the company's ban on the use of free Wi-Fi. It is noted that the crew of the aircraft does not have a separate channel for communication, and therefore many flight attendants used the Internet, which is intended for the airline's customers.
Thus, after identifying more than 36 established cases of network connection, the company decided to dismiss the offenders. In total, 22 employees were fired, and another 101 received warnings, The Daily Courier reports.
However, the story continued after one of the dismissed flight attendants filed a lawsuit against Finnair. During the investigation, the Helsinki District Court found that more than 700 employees were connected to Wi-Fi, and therefore the airline's policy was unevenly applied. Thus, the court ordered Finnair to compensate the applicant for EUR 21,000.
The court's decision sparked discussions about a possible damage in the use of the Internet and mobile phones by flight attendants. In particular, Finnair argued that flight attendants using Wi-Fi harm both the company and its customers, putting them in danger.
Earlier, TravelWise reported that Finnair intends to weigh its passengers before the flight.
