Faster than airplanes: in 2024, new high-speed trains will connect major cities in the United Kingdom
A new train will be introduced in the UK that will be able to reach speeds comparable to airplanes. The new high-speed rail line will connect the British cities of Edinburgh and London and is set to be launched by the end of 2024.
Euronews Travel reports.
The train was initially planned for launch in 2019 but faced constant delays. However, it is finally expected to be operational in 2024.
The capitals of Scotland and England are currently connected by services operated by LNER, Lumo, and Caledonian Sleeper.
The average rail travel time between Edinburgh and London is currently 5.5 hours, with some trains completing the journey in as little as 4.5 hours. However, the new railroad aims to cover this distance in four hours.
Traveling will be carried out by LNER. The train will make only two stops: in Newcastle and York.
The new trains are expected to outpace air travel between the two destinations. This is excellent news for visitors to the UK, as they will have the opportunity to travel more conveniently and quickly between the two most popular tourist cities.
