Emirates is preparing to launch flights to Madagascar
Madagascar and Emirates are taking decisive steps towards opening direct flights between Dubai and Antananarivo, as well as Dubai and Nosy-Be. This possibility has been discussed since 2015.
Madagascar's President Andry Rajoelina met with Emirates CEO Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum in Dubai to move closer to establishing direct flights. This was reported by 2424 Mg.
According to the Presidential Communications Department, the project is already underway.
This time, both sides are determined. Earlier, in 2015, similar negotiations with Emirates were unsuccessful.
A committee will be set up to implement the project, which will include representatives of the Madagascar authorities and Emirates technical experts.
"The cooperation agreement will be implemented as soon as possible, with a firm commitment from both governments to facilitate this historic air link between the Big Island and the United Arab Emirates," the President's Communications Department said.
Madagascar is ready to receive Emirates flights. President Rajoelina assured the airline that Ivato and Nosy-Be airports meet international standards and are capable of handling wide-body aircraft, of which there are many in the company's fleet.
As previously reported by TravelWise, Emirates passengers flying from Dubai may face minor inconveniences.
