Dominican Republic’s Northeastern Coast Welcomes New All-Inclusive Resort

Hyatt Hotels Corporation has unveiled Dreams Playa Esmeralda Resort & Spa, located in the Mijas region on the northeast coast of the Dominican Republic. The resort offers 500 rooms and suites, some of which have private terraces or direct access to the pool. This project is part of Hyatt's strategy to expand its Inclusive Collection brand in the Caribbean, where Miches is positioned as a rapidly developing tourist destination compared to the country's traditional resort areas.
The resort provides a range of restaurants, family-friendly pools, and leisure amenities suitable for guests of every age group. Guests have the option to join the Preferred Club, providing additional services and upgraded accommodations. The resort additionally connects with Secrets Playa Esmeralda, an adults-only neighbor, via a central area named the Public Square. This shared space includes restaurants, entertainment areas, and services accessible to both hotels.
“Dreams Playa Esmeralda Resort & Spa invites families and multigenerational travelers to relax, reconnect, and discover the beauty of the Dominican Republic."
The Miches area, where the resort is located, attracts investors thanks to its natural surroundings and undeveloped coastline. Visitors can explore nearby attractions such as Montaña Redonda, with its extensive panoramic vistas, and Los Haitises National Park, home to mangrove ecosystems and detailed cave structures. Nearby is also the Bay of Samaná, known for its seasonal whale watching excursions. These sites offer options for ecotourism and research, setting Mijas apart from the more conventional, commercial resort zones in the Dominican Republic.
Hotel guests have access to a spa, water park, and kids' and teens' clubs. The hotel also offers event and group meeting facilities, reflecting Hyatt's commitment to catering to both families and large tour groups. The resort's design and range of services are in line with general industry trends that emphasize multifunctional spaces and a variety of amenities. This approach reflects the broader desire of global hotel brands to meet the changing expectations of travelers.

The launch of Dreams Playa Esmeralda highlights Hyatt's efforts to grow tourism in areas outside the usual resort destinations. Michoacán is still relatively undeveloped, yet growing investment points to its increasing importance in the nation's tourism industry. The opening of the resort is a step toward positioning the region as a competitor to traditional Caribbean destinations. For travelers, this means greater access to new places and experiences, supported by the ongoing development of infrastructure and the hotel business in the Dominican Republic.
