Colombian tourist stuck in Scotland due to lost documents
A Colombian tourist in Edinburgh is desperately pleading for the return of a bag containing important documents, including passports, identity cards, and bank cards, so he can return home and see his wife.
Juan Manuel Nates Alzate, 24, is a web designer, singer, and dancer originally from Colombia who now lives in Ghent, Belgium. He flew to Edinburgh on Saturday to visit his aunt and cousin who live in the city and to spend time with his mother, who is recovering from brain surgery, EdinburghLive reports.
Juan met his cousin near the shore of the Leith and drank wine. He was carrying a backpack with important documents, including his Colombian and Belgian passports, Belgian identity card, bank cards belonging to him and his mother, and personal mementos, such as photos of his wife and father.
After having a few drinks and returning home, Juan realized that he had left his bag behind. When he returned to where he was sitting, the bag was nowhere to be seen. Juan's mother informed him the next morning that someone had tried to make a purchase using her bank card, causing her to have to cancel the rest of her cards.
Now Juan is stuck in Scotland and unable to return home. He contacted the Belgian embassy, which was unable to provide him with a timeframe for getting him a replacement passport.
As TravelWise reported earlier, a passenger was stranded at Manchester Airport due to a lost passport.
