Car with Russian license plates confiscated in Lithuania for the first time
Lithuanian customs officers in Medininkai detained the first car with Russian license plates.
A Moldovan citizen was driving it from Lithuania to Belarus. He said he did not know anything about the restrictions imposed by the European Union, Delfi reports.
The driver was familiarized with the rules in force since March 11, 2024, and informed that he would face a fine and confiscation of the car.
An administrative offense report was drawn up. The car worth 41,690 euros was detained. Most likely, it will be confiscated and transferred to the needs of Ukraine.
As TravelWise reported, starting March 11, there should be no cars with Russian license plates in Lithuania and other EU countries. These cars had to leave the EU by Monday.
From now on, the owners of cars with Russian license plates will be considered violators of the law and will be subject to liability – a fine or confiscation of the car.
