Capital A Soars in Sustainability Rankings with Strategic Revamp
Capital A has significantly advanced its position in global sustainability standings, following a successful overhaul of its sustainability framework. This revamp prioritized comprehensive climate risk mitigation measures and enhanced stakeholder communication, propelling the group into the limelight of environmental stewardship.
The group's flagship carrier, AirAsia, was awarded the GOLD Environmental Sustainability rating by the Centre for Aviation in its 2023 CAPA-Envest Global Airline Sustainability Benchmarking Report. This commendation places AirAsia among the top 19 airlines, recognizing its outstanding efficiency and environmental performance as it rejuvenates its network post-COVID-19. Notably, AirAsia achieved the 11th lowest CO2 emissions per passenger and 12th lowest emission per seat among nearly 80 global airlines.
Simultaneously, the London Stock Exchange Group acknowledged Capital A's exemplary Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) efforts, ranking it 15th out of 124 airlines based on its ESG scoring. This places AirAsia at the forefront among ASEAN carriers and among the top global low-cost airlines, with a notable score of 71%.
These accolades complement a series of positive ESG assessment outcomes for Capital A, reflecting its commitment to sustainability. Notably, the company's ESG score in Malaysia improved, surpassing the FTSE4Good Bursa Malaysia Index benchmark continuously from 2020 to 2022. Additionally, Capital A's Thai associate, Asia Aviation, saw a significant increase in its ESG ratings, demonstrating the group's leadership in sustainability practices across the aviation industry.
