Budapest Airport Soars with New Summer Flight Schedule
Budapest Ferenc Liszt International Airport (BUD) is setting the stage for a record-breaking summer with a significant expansion in its flight schedule. This season, the airport will offer direct flights to 130 destinations across Europe and the Far East Asia, served by a roster of 39 airlines. This enhanced connectivity not only promises an exciting summer for travelers but also positions the Hungarian capital as a pivotal gateway to some of the world's most sought-after destinations.
Expanding Horizons
As daylight saving time ushers in longer days and the promise of summer adventures, airlines operating out of BUD are ramping up their services. Among the highlights is the introduction of flights to Faro, Portugal's southern gem, by Ryanair. This new route marks the first direct connection between Budapest and Faro, with two weekly services planned. Ryanair is also expanding its reach with new flights to the Greek island of Skiathos, Milan's Malpensa Airport, Frankfurt-Hahn, Tirana, and Trieste, alongside increasing frequencies to 20 existing destinations including Alicante, Bari, and Rome.
Wizz Air, Hungary's homegrown carrier, is not to be outdone, announcing several new routes from BUD. From June, the airline will also increase the frequency of flights to popular destinations like Alicante, Athens, Basel, Glasgow, Madrid, Malta, Milan, Naples, Nice, Rome, Thessaloniki, Tirana, and Paris.
The surge in flights is particularly noticeable within Europe, with the largest frequency increases on routes to Tirana, Catania, Madrid, Alicante, Berlin, Geneva, Basel, and Amsterdam. Furthermore, flights to Far East Asia from Budapest will see a boost, offering travelers more options to reach distant lands.
Aiming for Record Numbers
Budapest Airport's strategic enhancements come on the back of a strong performance in passenger numbers. With over a million passengers per month recorded in 2023, the airport experienced significant growth in January and February of this year, with increases of 16.5% and 21.1% respectively compared to 2023. This upward trajectory sets the airport on course to surpass its previous annual record of 16.2 million passengers set in 2019.
As the largest shareholder, AviAlliance's reports indicate a bright future for Budapest Airport, with passenger numbers consistently on the rise. This summer's expanded flight schedule underscores the airport's commitment to facilitating seamless travel and enhancing its role in the global aviation network.
