Britons have been warned about trips to Croatia: you may not be allowed in
Croatia is a fairly popular resort among British tourists. That's why the UK Foreign Office has updated its travel warning for anyone traveling to this country.
Yes, you must comply with Schengen passport rules to travel to Croatia. Your passport's "expiration date" must be at least three months after the day you intend to leave, and its "issue date" must be less than ten years before your arrival date to enter Croatia, as well as all other Schengen countries, reports the Liverpool Echo.
You will be denied entry if you do not have a valid travel document or attempt to use a lost or stolen passport. People are also warned that border controls have been introduced on Slovenia's border with Croatia, which will be in effect for six months.
"If you are a visitor, your passport must be stamped when you enter or leave the Schengen area (which includes Croatia). Border guards will use the stamps in your passport to check whether you have exceeded the 90-day visa-free regime restrictions on staying in the Schengen area," the warning says.
If your passport is not stamped, border guards will assume that you have exceeded the visa-free limit, the department warned.
At the Croatian border, you may also need:
- proof of your place of residence, such as a hotel reservation confirmation or proof of a second home address
- proof of your travel insurance
- return ticket
- proof that you have enough money for your stay - the amount depends on your accommodation.
