Book your flights for 2024 now if you want to secure a favorable deal
New data from the online booking platform Hopper indicates that January will be the cheapest time to travel until the fall. Domestic airfares for flights will average only $253, which is 11% lower than in December and 6% lower than in January 2023.
Hayley Berg, Hopper's lead economist, mentioned that airfares to Oceania have dropped by 22% compared to last year, and even closer destinations such as Mexico and Central America have seen a decrease of about 10%. Experts anticipate that airfare prices will rise, so travelers should take advantage of these deals while they last. This was reported by news.yahoo.com.
"We expect domestic airfares to remain below 2023 and pre-pandemic levels for the next 6 months. For those booking travel for 2024, January will be the cheapest month of the year until the fall season in September and October, so now is a great time for travelers to capitalize on the low prices and book those trips. Prices will increase by the end of spring when spring break and summer travel periods arrive," said Haley Berg, Hopper's lead economist.
Airlines are also increasing seat capacity to many destinations, which helps drive down prices for some of the most popular spots. To find the best deals, Berg advises being open to traveling during off-peak times and protecting oneself in case of any disruptions.
"Flexibility continues to be a key trend for consumers in 2024 after the pandemic. Consumer behavior has strengthened over the past three years, and more and more travelers are willing to pay extra for products specifically designed to protect them from travel disruptions. Almost one in five customers who book flights with Hopper will purchase flight disruption assistance to safeguard their plans," added Hayley.
