A tiny Spanish village with 40 volcanoes and a mysterious waterfall amazes travelers with its beauty
Spain is home to many popular vacation destinations, but some of them have definitely been overlooked. Millions of tourists visit this country, choosing well-known destinations such as Madrid, Barcelona, Tenerife, and Lanzarote.
One place that vacationers may not know about is Castelfollit de la Roca, a narrow hilltop village in Catalonia. The small village is located on the outskirts of a well-known nature reserve in the region called the La Garrotxa Volcanic Zone Nature Reserve. This is reported by Rustical Travel, a travel blog that specializes in writing articles about the "unexplored" corners of Spain, TheSun reports.
The natural reserve of the La Garrotxa volcanic zone is home to more than 40 volcanoes. Although the volcanoes are no longer active, their cones, vegetation, and landscapes attract tourists.
The territory of the park is divided into two separate zones: High Garrotts and Lower Garrotts. In High Garrotxa, tourists can expect rugged landscapes and rocky valleys, while Lower Gattotxa is home to endless plains.
The most popular activities in the volcanic park are hiking and cycling, with a large number of routes available for all fitness levels.
It is also home to the Salto del Molí dels Murriz, a huge cascading waterfall that is called one of the park's best-kept secrets.
In addition to exploring the natural scenery, vacationers are also recommended to visit the hilltop village of Castelfollit de la Roca. Located between the Fluvia and Toronel rivers, on top of a basalt cliff, this village is considered one of the most picturesque in Catalonia.
How to get to Castelfollit de la Roca?
The nearest airport to Castelfollit de la Roca is Barcelona Airport, which is a two-hour drive from the Spanish county. Ryanair and Vueling operate direct flights from UK cities such as London and Birmingham, with prices starting at £18 for a one-way ticket.
